Prime Rib with Garlic Herb Butter Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the Prime Rib:
- 1 (4-6 pounds) prime rib roast (bone-in or boneless)
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- For the Garlic Herb Butter:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (finely chopped)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (finely chopped)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Zest of 1 lemon
Instructions:
- Prepare the Roast:
- Remove the prime rib from the fridge at least 1 hour before cooking to bring it to room temperature.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Pat the roast dry with paper towels and season all over with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Make the Garlic Herb Butter:
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, Dijon mustard, and lemon zest until well combined.
- Apply the Butter:
- Rub the garlic herb butter generously over the entire surface of the prime rib, ensuring even coverage.
- Roast the Prime Rib:
- Place the roast on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the roast.
- Roast at 450°F for 15 minutes to sear the exterior, then reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C). Continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness:
- Rare: 120-125°F (49-52°C)
- Medium-rare: 130-135°F (54-57°C)
- Medium: 140-145°F (60-63°C)
- Rest the Meat:
- Remove the roast from the oven and tent it loosely with foil. Allow it to rest for 20-30 minutes before carving to retain its juices.
- Serve:
- Slice the roast into thick, juicy pieces and serve with sides like mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. Optionally, pair it with a red wine or beef jus for added flavor.
